I had a great time in Toronto at the TIFF (Toronto International  Film Festival) and saw some 30 movies…and award season will be exciting this year with films such as Tim Ford’s Film NOCTURNAL AMNIMALS  with Amy Adams and Jake Gyllanhall, MANCHESTER BY THR SEA with Casey Afflack and Michelle Williams, and LA LA LAND (Tiff Audience Award Winner) with Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. LA LA LAND is a throw back to the old style song and dance musical. I saw many others however these three shall get lots of award recognition come December.

AND now to what is happening this October. We open MISS PERIGRINE’S HOUSE FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN this week (week of 9/30), a film by Tim Burton based on the best selling novel. We also open QUEEN OF KATWE, a heartwarming story based on a true story.

"Queen of Katwe" is the colorful true story of a young girl selling corn on the streets of rural Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess, and, as a result of the support she receives from her family and community, is instilled with the confidence and determination she needs to pursue her dream of becoming an international chess champion. Lupito N’yong’o’s brillant perforamce elevates this film to a very enjoyable level. “Queen of Katwe” is exclusive in the New London / Groton region at MLC.

GIRL ON A TRAIN has its’ Advance Premier Screening on October 6 and tickets are on sale now.

Coming on October 21 is DENIAL, the story of a Holocaust Denier….and the court case behind it…based on True events.

As we look ahead we are planning a mix of family, commercial and smart film with such titles as Marvel’s Dr. Strange (nov 4), Trolls (nov 4), American Pastoral (Nov), Disney’s Moana (nov 23), Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (nov 18) and Loving (nov 23).
